RITZVILLE – Colville tribal member Mackenzie Arden of Wilbur-Creston has been practically unbeatable in the 100-meter dash.

Leading up to the end of the year track and field championships, Arden has placed first in two of the four 100-meter races and once again proved that she’s one of the fastest sprinters in the region for 1B runners.

After getting off to a good start on the blocks Arden jumped out to the lead and was right where she wanted to be 50 meters in.

“I’m usually slow out of the blocks and than I pull ahead but this time I actually got out pretty fast,” said Arden.

With about 20 meters left, Arden was virtually tied with Selkirk’s Sydnee Pettis.

“I was pretty close to the girl with about 20 meters left and I finally just pulled ahead from digging,” she said.

Arden went on to finish first (13.60) in the 100-meter championship race at the District 7/District 9 1B outdoor Track and Field Eastern Washington Championships at Ritzville High School’s track and field complex on May 7.

“I was ranked second for that and I ended up winning,” said Arden after the race. “It’s going great, even though it was a short season, it’s been amazing,”

Not even an hour after her first race, Arden would be competing in the 400-meter championship race as only a matter of seconds, tenths of seconds separated her from winning.

Arden fell short of victory in the 400meters, losing by .14 tenths of a second to Kennedy Cook of Garfield-Palouse as they two had a photo finish.

Arden finished with a time of (1:02.37) Cook finished with a time of (1:02.23) and set a personal record in the process.

Leading up to the final race, Arden had placed first in three of her four meets in the 400 meters.

In her final event of the day, Arden placed third in the 200meters with a time of (28.85).
