Oliver Pakootas and Onyx lead the way down the hill as the rest of the field follows on Friday night

OMAK – For the second straight night, Oliver Pakootas (Colville tribal member) and his horse Onyx would go on to outlast the field, placing first on Friday night, taking a commanding lead in the overall standings.

Josiah Desautel and Blur placed second and Fran Marchand and Schitzo Lenny would go on to place third.

Pakootas and Oynx were the first combo to break over the hill and would be the first into the Okanogan.

From there, Pakootas began to build up speed coming out of the water and by the time he was on the dike, Onyx was flying to the finish line for the five overall points.

“This is pretty awesome,” said Pakootas. “I’m feeling pretty good right now. I’m proud of hell for our horse. Looking forward to the next two days.”
