Colville tribal member Soarin’ Marchand sinks seven 3-pointers; Lake Roosevelt goes on 16-0 run in fourth quarter to beat Oroville 69-52 in semifinals of CWA 2B League Tournament
COULEE DAM – Colville tribal member Soarin’ Marchand of Lake Roosevelt let his game do all of the talking.
He made seven 3-point shots on his way to scoring 23 points as he helped Lake Roosevelt to a 69-52 win over Oroville on Friday (Feb. 14) night in the semifinals of the Central Washington 2B League Tournament.
“It’s pretty nice, been working,” says Marchand. “When we push it and get buckets it’s pretty nice.”
Lake Roosevelt jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead midway through the first, but Oroville battled back tying the game at 18-18 after the opening quarter.
The Raiders held a 35-33 lead at halftime, but would find themselves all tied up at 46-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
Lake Roosevelt held a 52-46 lead at the 5:56 mark in the fourth quarter when Sam Wapato (tribal member) made a 3-point shot, giving the Raiders a nine-point lead (55-46) with 5:11 left in the game.
Marchand would put the final dagger in as he sank his seventh 3-point shot, giving Lake Roosevelt a 69-49 lead with 1:58 left and eventually the win.
“I knew it was going to be a close game, Oroville is very well coached,” said Jeremy Crollard, head coach for Lake Roosevelt.
“I kept preaching to the boys to turn it up a notch and our defense really came alive in the third quarter.”
Tribal member Cameron St. Pierre of Lake Roosevelt finished with 11 points. Tribal members Tyler Jordan finished with 10 points and Adam George scored seven points. Wapato chipped in five points on the night.
Johnathon Cante scored 11 points for the Raiders.
Lake Roosevelt lost to Brewster 70-48 in the Central Washington 2B League Tournament championship game on Tuesday (Feb. 18) evening at the Chelan Community Gym.
Despite the loss to Brewster, the Raiders will move on to the Bi-District 5/6 2B boys basketball tournament where they will play against Liberty Christian on Friday (Feb. 21) at 8 PM at Quincy High School in a loser out, winner advance to regionals format.
“Anytime you get into the playoffs, you start the season all over,” said Crollard
Lake Roosevelt is currently 18-4 overall. They were co-champions of the Central Washington 2B league this season with Brewster. Both schools finished 15-1 in league. The Raiders are currently ranked seventh in the RPI rankings system by the WIAA which is powered by Maxpreps as of Feb. 19, 2020.
