Hall and Pateros roll to 69-51 win over Entiat, beat out Moses Lake Christian 60-52, now on to Regionals
EPHRATA – Win and your season continues, lose and well.
“If we lose, were turning in our jerseys and were done,” said Marcus Stennes head coach for Pateros. “It’s that simple.”
Ethan Freels didn’t want to turn in his jersey as he carried the load for Pateros in a loser-out/winner advance game on Friday evening.
He scored a game high 23 points, Andrew Gonzalez scored 12 and Colville tribal member Aiden Hall added six points as the trio helped lead Pateros (14-8) to 69-51 win over Entiat (11-10) in the CWA 1B District Tournament at Ephrata High School.
“It feels good to get a win,” said Stennes. “Tonight we played pretty good.”
Pateros found themselves trailing after the first quarter 12-11 but they would soon take the lead back in the second as they exploded for 19 points in the quarter to take a 30-21 lead into halftime.
One thing Stennes emphasized to his team in the locker room at halftime.
“It was rebounding” Stennes said. Entiat attacks the boards really hard.”
Pateros outscored Entiat 17-10 in the third quarter to take a 47-31 lead heading into the fourth. The Tigers had their highest point total in the fourth quarter as they scored 20 points, but Pateros scored 22 in the quarter to win by 18.
Hall only a sophomore looks to be a key piece for Pateros going forward.
“Aiden is a solid player, he shoots the ball well, he takes care of the ball for how tall he is,” said Stennes. “He hit a couple of big shots down that we needed and I look forward to seeing Aiden grow.”
Pateros went 15-of-21 from the free throw line compared to Entiat who missed nine free throws, going 10-of-19 from the charity stripe.
Pateros lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday night to Moses Lake Christian 67-66, which knocked them to the consolation bracket.
“We struggled on Tuesday,” said Stennes. “You never know what you’re going to get, your getting everyone’s best performance every night.”
A few days later, Pateros would meet up again with Moses Lake Christian; this time they would win 60-52 on Saturday at Ephrata High School to put them in Regionals in another loser out/winner advance situation.
Pateros will play Neah Bay at Mt. Tacoma High School on Saturday (Feb. 23) at 2 p.m.
