COULEE CITY – Eight: That’s how many 3-point shots Chase Gerard of Almira/Coulee-Hartline made in the third quarter.
Gerard singlehandedly rallied his squad to an eight-point (84-77) win over Wellpinit on Saturday evening in NE 1B league action.
“The dude got hot,” said William Dick IV (Colville tribal member) of Wellpinit.
Wellpinit jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter and held a 44-31 lead at halftime.
However, after getting up by 13 points, A.C.H. would come storming back, scoring 32 points as a team in the third quarter with Gerard being the catalyst.
Gerard’s eight 3-pointers brought back A.C.H. to within one point as Wellpinit was clinging to a 64-63 lead after the third quarter.
“The shooter got hot and hit eight 3-pointers in the third quarter. That’s tough” said Jacob Green, head coach for Wellpinit.
A.C.H. took the lead for good in the fourth quarter as they would go on to win by seven (84-77) over Wellpinit.
“We’ll see them in the playoffs,” said Dick. IV. “That was a good game. I feel like we're just peaking right now.”
With the loss, Wellpinit falls to 3-6 in NE 1B South League action and are 8-8 overall. A.C.H. is 7-2 in NE 1B South League play and are 11-7 overall.
Gerard finished with 35 points for A.C.H.
Aiden Wynne and Fats Carmona of Wellpinit both scored a team-high 14 points, Kobe Stearns scored 12 points, Steven Ford Jr. finished with 10 points and Dick IV finished with eight points on the night.
