Sherwin Vargas pinned teammate Trevon Johnson in 1:02 to win District 6 at 220.

COULEE DAM –An overall solid day for the Lake Roosevelt wrestling program as they will be advancing on a big portion of their team to state. 

“We had a great tournament,” said Steven Hood, head wrestling coach for Lake Roosevelt . “22 moving on to Regionals.“ 

The Raiders finished with 286 total team points on the day, giving them second place at the 2B District 6 wrestling tournament on Saturday. Tonasket placed first with 339.50 total team points. 

In all, Lake Roosevelt had five first places, four placed second and seven of their wrestlers placed third. 

Sherwin Vargas (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed first in the 220-pound bracket. He pinned fellow teammate and tribal member Trevon Johnson in the championship match on Saturday evening. 

Terrance Saulque (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed first in the 285-pound bracket on Saturday evening. Saulque pinned Oroville’s Jose Cervantes in the first round to bring home the championship.

Moses Luevano (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed second in the 182-pound bracket. He pinned Julio Alatorre of Tonasket and would lose to Carson Sasse of Tonasket 4-0 in the final. 

Steven Flowers (Colville tribal descendant) of Lake Roosevelt placed second in the 195-pound bracket on Saturday evening. He squared off with Isaac Gomez of Tonasket in the championship match, falling 10-2. 

Colton Jackson (Colville tribal descendant) of Lake Roosevelt placed second in the 106-pound bracket on Saturday evening. He beat Lazaro Soria in a 12-9 decision in the semifinals. Jackson would fall to Waylon Thomas of Tonasket 6-3 in the championship match. 

Ida Sue (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed third at the Girls Sub Regional and she will be wrestling at State. 

Robert Thomas (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed third in the 113-pound bracket. He was pinned by Tonasket’s Lane Bolich in the third round with one second left. Thomas would go on to pin fellow teammate Dylin Armstrong 1:55 into the first round. 

Taylor Circle (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed third in the 126-pound bracket. He won by points over Tonasket’s Angel DePaz 8-6 in his first match and would get pinned by Oroville’s Cody Field in the semifinals. Circle pinned fellow teammate Everett Schmidt and beat DePaz for the second time in a 8-5 decision to take home third. 

Tyler Palmer (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed third in the 152-pound bracket. He was pinned by Seth Baugher of Oroville in the semifinals but would go on to beat Josh Smith of Pateros in a 11-4 decision for third. 

Dakota Seylor (Colville tribal descendant) of Lake Roosevelt placed third in the 132-pound bracket on Saturday evening. In Seylor’s first match, he was pinned by Tonasket’s Rielan Bretz in the second round. Seylor would go on to pin Alexis Garcia of Tonasket in the first round for third/fourth place.

Joseph Tynan (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed third in the 285-pound bracket on Saturday evening. Tynan was pinned by Jose Cervantes of Oroville in the semifinals.

Myka Boyd (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed fourth in the 182-pound bracket. He beat Rodolfo Madrid of Brewster in a 8-5 decision but would get pinned by Carson Sasse of Tonasket in the semifinals. Boyd pinned Oscar Cervantes of Oroville and would get pinned by Julio Alatorre in the third/fourth place match. 

Kaiden Palmer (Colville tribal member) of Lake Roosevelt placed fifth in the 160-pound bracket. He was pinned by Austin Brock of Tonasket in his first match. He would go on to beat fellow teammate Dylan Wiles 15-2 and would get a win over Hunter DeVon of Oroville for fifth. 

Sergia Galicia (Colville tribal descendant) of Lake Roosevelt placed fifth in the 170-pound bracket on Saturday evening going 2-2 on the day. In Galicia’s first match, he lost to Brewster’s Gabe Garcia 15-9. He would go on to pin Anthony Medel of Pateros in his second match. Galicia would lose a 9-3 decision to Ryden Zabreznik of Tonasket in this third match and would beat Elijah Burnell of Oroville 4-2 for fifth/sixth place.

1st – Tonasket – 339.50 

2nd – Lake Roosevelt – 286.00 

3rd – Oroville – 137.00 

4th – Liberty Bell – 52.00 

5th – Brewster – 21.00 

6th – Pateros – 12.00
