SPOKANE, Wash. – The Lake Roosevelt High School girls basketball team came up just short against number one seeded La Conner, losing 69-61 on Friday (March 4) morning, ending their season at this year’s WIAA 2B girls basketball state tournament at the Spokane Arena.

Despite the loss, this Lady Raiders team has nothing to hold their heads down for as they made history, earning a trip to the WIAA 2B girls basketball state tournament for the first time since 2011.

The Lady Raiders will say goodbye to Seniors Almeta Desautal (Colville tribal member) and Audrey Hansen but will bring back mostly their whole squad for next season.

Colville tribal member Aaliyah Marchand went 5-of-7 from the 3-point line, scoring 15 points. Hansen for Lake Roosevelt scored a team-high 18 points with six rebounds in her final game as a Raider.

Both teams were tied 33-33 at halftime but La Conner slowly began to pull away in the second half as the turnovers began to pile up for the Lady Raiders. La Conner had 10 turnovers to Lake Roosevelt's 22.

Lake Roosevelt ends the year with a 19-5 overall record, going 1-2 at the state tournament.

Okanogan girls hold off Lake Roosevelt for 64-49 win, advance to WIAA 2B State Semifinals

SPOKANE, Wash. – For the first 16 minutes, the Lady Raiders held the lead and controlled the flow of the game for the most part.

But just one bad stretch of basketball is all it takes to derail a team.

Lake Roosevelt held a 26-20 lead at halftime and had a lot of momentum heading into intermission but that lead quickly changed in the third quarter.

The six-point lead by the Lady Raiders quickly evaporated as Okanogan decided to turn up the intensity in the second half.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored Lake Roosevelt 29-10 in the third quarter, erasing a six-point deficit and taking a 49-36 lead. Eventually, Okanogan would go on to win 64-49 over their league rivals Lake Roosevelt in the quarterfinals of the WIAA 2B girls basketball state tournament on Thursday (March. 3) morning at the Spokane Arena.

Colville tribal members and sisters Danielle and Sydney Sparks combined for two points and five rebounds for Okanogan.

The Lady Bulldogs play the winner of La Conner or Warden in the semifinals of the WIAA 2B girls basketball state tournament with a trip to the state championship on the line, Friday afternoon with tipoff at 3:45 at the Spokane Arena.
