WINNEMUCCA, Nevada. – Jessie Walker finished her high school rodeo career at the Silver State Rodeo. Jessie graduated from Omak High School on June 11, 2022. Jessie has been rodeoing since she was five years old. She recently competed at the Silver State International Rodeo June 30-July 7.
Jessie has seven horses that she rides: GoldFish, which is a breakaway horse; Major is her barrel racing horse; Bobbi, head horse; Leroy, rope horse; Frosty, all-around horse, Cowboy, breakaway and heel horse; Big Bay, jr. rodeo horse; “and Bottle Rock was a rescue horse turning out to be a great barrel horse.”
Over the winter, Jessie played many nights of Open Gym at the Omak Community Center to keep in shape for rodeo season. She has competed in Jr. Rodeo, All-Indian Rodeo, and recently finished her High School Rodeo career. This past season, she competed in 16 High School Rodeos. She competed at the Washington State Finals, where the top four advance to the National HS Finals Rodeo, and 5-25 to Silver State International Rodeo.
Jessie competed in barrels, team roping, and breakaway. She was 27th in barrels and 34th in breakaway. It was a 13-hour drive one way. She has gained a lot of experience over the years and plans to continue rodeoing for the Walla Walla Community College Rodeo Team. She wants to study to become a dental hygienist or dental assistant. She wants to continue to compete in All-Indian Rodeos.

For those still in high school and want to compete in High School Rodeo, she would say, “Focus on your grades because the High School Rodeo Association does grade checks, and to keep practicing–it pays off in the end. You get what you put into it.”
