OMAK – The Lake Roosevelt High School varsity volleyball team split their final two matches of the fall season as they beat Omak 3-0 and lost to Brewster 3-1, April 3.

In Lake Roosevelt’s first match, the Lady Raiders jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but Omak battled back to tie it at 6-6, 7-7, and 10-10. The Lady Pioneers eventually took a 13-11 lead and expanded that to a seven-point lead near the end of the first set.

After seeing her team fall behind 20-13, Lake Roosevelt’s Teri Sue Reed, head coach for the Lady Raiders called a timeout, in the hopes of calming her squad down and slowing down Omak’s scoring frenzy.

The next two points would go to Omak as they had now built a nine point lead (22-13) and it appeared that they would go on to win the first set.

Lake Roosevelt kept chipping away and went on a run of their own, scoring seven unanswered points to cut the lead to 22-20 as Omak’s Brenda Worden, head varsity coach would be forced to call a timeout to slow down the Lady Raiders run.

The match would be tied at 22-22, 23-23 and 25-25 before Lake Roosevelt would go on to win the first set 27-25.

After the first set, Coach Reed told her team to, “Have some fun and enjoy yourselves.”

Lake Roosevelt raced out to an early 6-1 lead and expanded that to 16-4 towards the midpoint of the second set. Omak would get to within seven points but was never able to close the gap more as the Lady Raiders would win the second set 25-16.

The Third set was a back-and-fourth matchup with Omak jumping out to an early at (6-4, 7-5, and 9-6) before Lake Roosevelt would start to chip away and would eventually take a 10-9 lead.

The game had numerous ties in the last set (11-11, 12-12,  and 15-15) and then Omak took a four point lead at 19-15, looking to extend the match to a fourth set.

Lake Roosevelt rallied back to tie the match at 19-19 and again at 23-23 before closing out the match with a 25-23 win.

In their last match up of the season, Lake Roosevelt lost to Brewster 3-1 to close out the season at 4-9 win/loss record and 2-6 in league action.
