Dear Omak Pioneers Class of 2020,

Since the school closure on March 17th, we have all been wondering about the end of the school year and graduation. Instructions from Governor Inslee, State Superintendent Chris Reykdal, and the Department of Health continue to develop, so we have been looking for a way to celebrate graduation while being flexible to the state’s expectations. This week Omak High School received approval for our graduation plans from Okanogan Public Health Officer Dr. John McCarthy. The newly approved plans for the 2020 commencement proceedings are much different from all previous graduation traditions, but the new plans include allowable accommodations under the current COVID-19 restrictions.

May 22nd:  Cap and Gown Distribution from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm in front of the high school main entrance. Seniors will remain in their vehicles, and the staff will deliver items to each car.

June 4th:  Senior Check Out from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm in front of the high school. Seniors will return all school items (textbooks, Chromebooks, athletic equipment, etc.) and pay for all fines. Completing this will clear students for graduation.

June 5th:  Senior Picture Day from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm in the student commons. Seniors need to be in cap and gown and bring all awards/stoles to have their picture taken by Tim Patrick Photography.

June 6th:  2020 Graduation Day Senior Parade. Staging for the parade will be at North Omak Elementary at 12:30 pm. The parade will begin at 1:00 pm. KOMW will do a live broadcast from the parade route. Vehicles will follow the parade route led by the Omak Police Department to Omak High School where seniors will pick up their diploma and any awards/plaques/certificates. Omak School District will have a live Facebook stream of seniors receiving their diplomas.

Omak High School realizes that this shift in the graduation traditions our community loves has caused sadness for many people. In spite of these circumstances out of our control, we want to honor and celebrate our seniors and their families for persevering not only through the school years but also through these trying times.

We are Pioneers!
