September 4, 2020

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy as we engage in this new adventure together. Whether we like it or not, we are in a new world of education. As we transition into starting school I wanted to take a moment to let you know about a few updates. You should have been receiving updates from different departments throughout the past couple of weeks. Please refer to our website (gcdsd.org) for school startup information and our school plan.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (8th, 9th, 10th) have been scheduled for conferences with parents and students. If you have not been contacted by your teacher or other school personnel, please contact the school ASAP. These first few days will be very important as we prepare to launch “Distance Learning” on Friday the 11th.

Attendance update: By law (RCW 28A.225.020), daily attendance will be taken. Students who are engaged online will be in attendance upon their daily log into their classroom. Students off line will be in attendance upon being contacted daily by a staff member or by parent/student calling into the school. This is going to be new for everyone so I ask that you work with the school in order to help streamline and manage your child’s attendance. If you plan to have your child miss school, please call into the school and excuse them (Just like normal).

Meals Update:

Please refer to the meal distribution schedule on the District website, gcdsd.org. Meal distribution will begin Tuesday 8th. Please go to your nearest meal site for food pickup.

Chromebooks update:

Chromebook orders have been delayed in shipping. Our initial distribution will be one per household until we receive additional devices. As soon as our order comes in we will distribute out to students who need them.

Distance learning update:

Parents, whether we wanted it or not distance learning has become part of the new norm. We recognize there are many difficulties that families will need to deal with, we will help where we can.

Students, now is the time to really become engaged in your learning. Ultimately, you have to make the step and accept your role as learner. Both your teachers and your parents are here to help but you need to take on your responsibility.

Please have GRACE with one another and COMMUNICATE often.

Mr. Turner
