OMAK – The Colville Indian Reservation will be the site for the 2nd annual Take Charge of your Health Triathlon that is set to take place on August 1 in the Omak area.

Participants will get underway with the swimming portion where swimmers will take to the waters of Omak Lake in a 500-yard swim, followed by a 10 mile bike ride and end with a 3 mile run.

Shelli Martinez, who works for the Colville Tribes Diabetes Program as the Physical Activities Lifestyle Specialist, conveyed that empowering yourself is substantial.

“One of the most important things is to have people empower themselves. Finding something to do to empower themselves.”

This year, 33 people have signed up for the triathlon, which is up from last year’s 27, but there’s still time to sign up for all those still wanting to participate.

Volunteers of any age are needed to help with the race and also greatly appreciated.

Spectators are encouraged to post themselves throughout the race and cheer on the participants.

For those individuals training for the event, and in particular the swimming portion, there will be swim support at Omak Lake, Monday to Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for anyone wanting more practice or training.
