The Colville Tribal Fish and Wildlife Department announced the continued closure of the Icicle Fishery, citing in a release “low and uncertain spring Chinook returns to the Columbia River, including the upper Columbia.”

The release further notes, “When open, the F&W Director may adjust the weekly fishing periods, or close the fishery entirely, based on in-season, hatchery broodfish returns. The fishery will extend, at the discretion of the F&W Director, until July 31.”

The fishery targets ESA-unlisted, Leavenworth stock, spring Chinook salmon in excess of the broodstock collection requirements set by staff at the USFWS Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery. When open, it is available to Wenatchi Band members of The Colville Confederated Tribes, the Ps’quosa people.
