Incident Commander: Bobby Shindelar July 20, 2021 8:00 AM

Operations Today:

Firefighters faced challenges again yesterday on the Chuweah Creek Fire as rising temperatures were accompanied by gusty winds and low relative humidity. Lines held, but some spotting and slop-over occurred, particularly on the northeast and lower eastern edge of the fire. Some spotting also occurred in the Central Peak area, as unburned interior fuels continue to dry out and ignite. Crews were able to construct additional hand and dozer line and complete a small burnout operation in areas of more active fire behavior. Efforts were aided by the use of significant air resources, however, there was another drone intrusion into airspace, temporarily impacting firefighting efforts.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect, as gusty winds and low relative humidity persist. Line construction along the north and east edges of the fire remain a priority as crews work to connect established containment lines.

Firefighters will continue to watch and hold the line along Keller Butte Ridge on the eastern flank. Engines will continue to patrol the south and west edges of the fire.

NW Team 12 continues to share resources and information with California Team 10 on the Summit Trail Fire, which is located northeast of the Chuweah Creek Fire. For information about the Summit Trail Fire, call 385.999.1380
