NESPELEM - The Colville Tribal Police Department issued a statement, Aug. 21, noting remains had been found near the Colville Tribal Agency in Nespelem. 

The statement reads, “Colville Tribal Police De-partment Chief of Police Dustin Best has advised that on August 16, 2019 in the Agency Campus area of Ne-spelem human remains was discovered. Colville Tribal Police had contacted Wash-ington State Patrol Crime Lab and FBI to assist in the inves-tigation. The Police Depart-ment at this time cannot make any comments to this investi-gation as it will be treated as a homicide until other factors that may present itself through investigation to determine the cause of death. We are working diligently to deter-mine cause and to positively identify the human remains by using medical records or any identifying evidence. A medical examiner will con-duct the forensic autopsy to assist in any determination of foul play or causes of death if possible. The Colville Tribal Police department also asks that if anyone has informa-tion about this case to contact them at 509-634-2472. The police department also asks the public to be patient as the Police are working this case with professionalism and care to complete or have answers to this discovery of human re-mains.”
