INCHELIUM – The Colville Business Council will vote on a recommendation that would allow the Colville Tribal Fish and Wildlife Department to construct a new shop at the former site of the Inchelium Post and Pole Plant in Special Session, Thursday.
CTFW’s Resident Fish Manager Holly McLellan presented to the CBC Natural Resource Committee, Tuesday.
“In the Inchelium area we lack any safe and secure storage for our equipment and we have really nice boats that we utilize for our pike removal and our sturgeon research in the upper section,” said McLellan. “We’ve had issues with theft, so what we want to do is utilize the Post and Pole plant area [to] build a nice big, secure shop, like the one down at Spirit Ridge.”
In 2017, CBC unanimously approved a resolution that approved “the permanent governmental use of the fenced-in portion of the Inchelium Post and Pole site by the Inchelium Fish and Wildlife Staff for vehicle, equipment, trailer, supplies, and shop space. In return, the F&W Program will provide maintenance of the site including weed control, vegetation management, security and surveillance, repairs, and other tasks deemed necessary to maintain the location in good condition.”
If approved, the new resolution would amend the 2017 resolution, allowing for construction on the 28.5-acre site.
According to McLellan, the site would include a video surveillance system.
