NESPELEM - The Colville Business Council released all non-essential tribal employees June 28 through the end of the week as the Colville Reservation and the Pacific Northwest faces an excessive heat wave.

A broadcast email read, “The safety and wellness of our employees and their families are most important and keeping this in mind the Colville Business Council will release all non-essential employees beginning today, June 28, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. thru the rest of the week.”

The broadcast further noted tribal community centers and senior meal sites would remain open for the week to provide cool refuge for the membership.

Community Centers open at 9 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. or later as needed.

On June 28, the National Weather Service announced an excessive heat warning, stating record-shattering heat forecasts were predicted across the northwest.

In Nespelem, the forecast predicts a high of 112 degrees Monday, 115 degrees Tuesday and 113 degrees Thursday.
