Parent/community update

Good evening,

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. We are in this crazy time together and we will get through it. Remember to get out, get some fresh air and exercise while adhering to social distancing of course.

Parents, as we traverse into this new paradigm of “distance learning”, I hope you and your child are engaged with us. Distance learning will become part of the new norm in the future. When (If) we are able to return to school, expect distance learning to continue in some fashion.

Students, now is the time you need to become familiar with all the changes and engage in this new learning.

The Chromebook’s have arrived. If you need a computer in order to do your school work online, contact the school and make an appointment to check out a Chromebook. We began checking them out this past week and will continue to do so until we have fulfilled the need.

If you do not have access to Wi-Fi, you may stop by the school, the middle school and the Tribal agency. All three locations have expanded Wi-Fi into the parking lot areas. We are currently in the process of extending access at both school locations and working with the tribe to expand additional accessibility on the reservation.

Paper/Pencil work is available to be picked up and returned M, W, F from 8:00-2:00 at the school. This is mainly for Jr/Sr High students.

Following the Governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” initiative and adhering to directives received from OSPI, the last day of school has been moved to June 19th. This change will affect graduation. By statute, seniors are allowed a 5 day early out. In consultation with parents and students and upon board approval, graduation will be moved to June 13th at 7:00 pm. In order to accommodate social distancing, the ceremony will be held at the football field pending some relief from the Governor. There will be more information to come.

The OSPI has given new guidelines for grading during this transitional time. We are currently working through decisions that need to be made at the district level. Expect new grading procedures in the near future. As I mentioned in my opening paragraph, engagement in learning is the number one thing you can do right now.

School and District Office hours

The School will be open M/W/F from 8:00 – 2:00.

Please call for an appointment in order to meet with District Office personnel. The District Office will be open during school time on a limited basis.

Remember: Until we can resume teaching in the classroom, please Stay Home / Stay Safe, keep your distance (10 feet) and wash your hands.

Mr. Turner
